Michael Sinhuber is currently a guest postdoctoral researcher in the group of Michael Wilczek at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization. He studied physics at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universtät Münster and received his diploma working on turbulent Rayleigh-Bénard convection together with Rudolf Friedrich. In 2011, he joined the group of Eberhard Bodenschatz at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization in Göttingen as a doctoral student and graduated in 2015. His thesis work included experimental studies on high Reynolds number decaying turbulence and the investigation of scaling properties of turbulent flows. In June 2015, he continued his work in this group as a postdoctoral scientist, investigating grid geometry effects on decaying turbulence and on statistical modeling of time series. In July 2016, Michael joined the group of Nicholas Ouellette at Stanford University as a postdoctoral researcher, working on polymer turbulence and collective behavior of insect swarms. His main research interests are turbulence, self-organization in fluid flows and statistics of externally perturbed collective systems.
