Award for outstanding achievements in education
The Max Planck Society (MPG) has given an award to the Göttingen Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization (MPI-DS) for special achievements in vocational training. In addition, one of the 19 trainee prizes awarded by the MPG in 2023 also went to Cristobal Nieto González from the MPI-DS.
This year, three of the more than 80 Max Planck Institutes were awarded with a prize for their training centers. The award, which is endowed with 7,500 Euros, is given for innovative training concepts, external collaborations and the provision of additional qualifications beyond the technical content. "We are very pleased to receive this award," says Ramin Golestanian, managing director of MPI-DS. "The high quality of our training is the result of excellent cooperation between instructors, administration and scientists," he continues.
Katharina Gunkel, instructor for the biological laboratory area at the institute, agrees: "We are very happy that we receive constant support from the various departments at the institute," says Gunkel. And her colleague Sven Franz, instructor for the electronics facility, adds, "Thanks to the close networking at the institute, we have been able to maintain the high level of our training in recent years, despite the global challenges."
During the vocational training at the MPI-DS, a special focus is set on a close exchange between the trainers and the trainees. This includes regular meetings and joint excursions, such as a recent trip to the MPG's general administration in Munich. Furthermore, at the annual Göttingen trainee fair "GöBit", the institute's booth regularly receives great attention.
Trainee award for special achievements in training
In addition to the award for the institute, Cristobal Nieto González was awarded with the MPG Trainee Prize. He is thus one of 19 trainees who were honored this year for outstanding professional and academic achievements as well as for special social commitment during their training. "I am very glad that I came here to the MPI-DS for my job training. As a result, I have found a profession that makes me happy and that gives me the feeling that I can contribute with something good. This prize is the reward for all the effort that my instructors, my team and I have put in!" says González happily.
During his training as an electronics technician for devices and systems, González worked on a project to investigate aerosol dynamics in indoor environments. To this end, he designed circuit diagrams for the required devices and independently developed prototypes for the necessary measurements. The trainee award is endowed with 750 Euros.
