Active Brownian particles are a basic model for active matter and have been used to describe the motility of microorganisms. In the talk I will present two projects that both use inference methods applied to such systems. In the first project, we inferred a Langevin description from simulations of phase separation in an active system to the size dynamics of bubbles in the condensed phase, which show unusual multiplicative noise. In the second project, we inferred parameters of individual active Brownian particles from trajectories and used this in the study of magnetotactic bacteria.
