Inspired by the quote of the physicist Richard Feynman “What I cannot build, I do not understand”, my goal is to develop a new strategy for studying nature, namely building synthetic structures that are able to mimic natural systems, but consist of a few biological building blocks and are assembled bottom-up. This approach provides reconstituted minimal biological systems in which the role of each component in biological processes can be analysed.
