Birte Thiede studied Physics at Göttingen University and joined the Max-Planck-Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization for her master’s thesis project where she studied the performance and wake of a model wind turbine in high Reynolds number flow.

Birte joined the Turbulence and Particles in Fluids group as a PhD student in April 2021. During her PhD, she developed an in-line holographic particle tracking velocimetry instrument for deployment on the CloudKite platform, improved and accelerated the hologram processing pipeline, and investigated droplet clustering in marine shallow cumulus clouds. After successfully defending her PhD, she continues her research in the group as a PostDoc, focusing on cloud microphysics using holographic in-situ measurements.
