Active soft matter
Soft matter systems far from equilibrium can exhibit a rich palette of active and self-organised states, including self propulsion, navigation and collective effects like swarming. In this respect, they show surprising similarity to biological analogues like bacteria or plankton. Our system of interest are active liquid crystal emulsions, which can be produced in large quantities of uniform droplets and studied in complex microfluidic geometries.
