Scientist

Oliver Schlenczek studied meteorology at the University of Mainz, where he received his Diplom (M.Sc. equivalent) in 2012. In January 2018 he obtained his PhD in experimental meteorology at the University of Mainz where he worked in the field of applied optics and cloud physics. He joined the institute in October 2017. In his previous position he developed an airborne holographic cloud particle spectrometer, characterized the instrument in the laboratory and obtained measurements of cloud droplets and ice crystals from various cloud types in the arctic, the mid latitudes and the subtropics using three different aircraft and the helicopter-borne platform ACTOS. His recent work is about developing and characterizing the inline holographic imaging system of the CloudKite and investigating the microphysics of liquid-phase, mixed-phase and ice clouds on spatial scales between some hundred micrometers and some centimeters.
