Postdoctoral position (m/f/d) in Fluid Physics

Job offer from November 20, 2019

For the group “Interfaces of complex fluids” of Dr. Stefan Karpitschka, we seek to fill a Postdoctoral position (m/f/d) in Fluid Physics.

The Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization (MPI-DS) at Göttingen, Germany, is an international, interdisciplinary and collaborative environment offering an exceptional research setting. It hosts a range of theoretical and experimental fundamental scientific research and a diverse group of researchers. Altogether, it employs about 300 people.

We are looking for excellent, highly motivated early-career researchers to join our research team. We offer excellent working conditions in a highly international research environment.

The research

The research group is part of the department of complex fluids and the international Max Planck – University of Twente Center for Complex Fluid Dynamics. The research of the group focuses on the behaviour of complex fluids in heterogeneous environments and non-equilibrium situations. Classical descriptions e.g. of wetting or evaporation break down, and the fluid physics are governed by compositional gradients at the fluid interfaces. Although we seek for fundamental understanding of such processes, our topics are immediately relevant for technological applications like the processing of semiconductor surfaces or ink-jet printing.

Your profile

The Postdoctoral candidate should hold a PhD degree with a background in experimental fluid dynamics or a related field. The ideal candidate should have experience in fluid or soft matter physics, ideally with optical measurement techniques. Fluency in English is a requirement.

Our offer

We are offering excellent working conditions in a highly interdisciplinary and stimulating research environment. Salary is in accordance with the German state public service salary scale (E13 TVöD-Bund) and the corresponding social benefits. Working hours are full time. We offer opportunities regarding work life balance as well as health promotion services. The postdoctoral position is for two years with the possibility of extension. The starting date is flexible.

The Max-Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.

Your application

To apply, please follow this link with the reference no. MPIDS-W040: (Online Application Form) and submit your CV, publication list, a statement of research interest, and contacts of two referees. In addition to the description of your proposed research, it should also briefly describe your past and current research interests and why you are interested in joining our department. Processing of applications will start after the deadline of 16th December 2019, and will stop when the positions are filled. You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
