Max-Planck-Institut für Dynamik und Selbstorganisation, Göttingen
Art der Stelle
Stellenangebot vom 13. November 2017
The Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization at Göttingen, Germany, is an international research institute. It performs both experimental and theoretical fundamental scientific research and currently employs about 280 people. In the department of Prof. Bodenschatz we seek to fill a Postdoctoral position for numerical and theoretical investigations of turbulent horizontal convection.
We are looking for an excellent postdoctoral researcher to conduct theoretical studies and direct numerical simulations of turbulent horizontal convection.
In horizontal convection, heating and cooling are applied to different parts of the same horizontal surface of a fluid layer. This setup is relevant in many astro- and geophysical systems and in process engineering. The project is devoted to theoretical and numerical investigation of this type of turbulent thermal convection. The project is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
The position and our offer:
We offer a postdoc position starting immediately or at the earliest convenience. The position is available for up to 36 months. Salary and working hours are in accordance with the German salary scale for the public service (TVöD Bund). Social benefits will be paid in TVöD accordance as well.
The Max-Planck society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
Candidates must have a PhD degree in one of the following fields: Physics, Geophysics, Mechanical Engineering, Applied or Numerical Mathematics. Excellent knowledge of fluid dynamics and wide experience in high performance scientific computing is necessary.
To apply please follow this link with the reference no. MPIDS-W004: https://s-lotus.gwdg.de/mpg/mpsf/perso/mpids_w004.nsf/application
and submit your CV, publication list, a brief statement of research interests and contacts of at least two referees. Your statement of interests should briefly describe your past and current research interests and why you are interested in joining our group. The position is opened until it is filled. Once it is filled, all applicants will be informed about the final decision.
