The Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization in Göttingen, Germany, is an international research institute. It performs both experimental and theoretical fundamental scientific research and currently employs about 280 people.
At the Laboratory for Fluid Dynamics, Pattern Formation and Biocomplexity led by Prof. Eberhard Bodenschatz, we seek to fill a PhD position.
We seek a highly motivated PhD student to join a research project focused on numerical investigation of rotating turbulent Rayleigh-Bénard convection. Further information on the project and the group can be found here.
PhD candidates should have a Master’s or comparable degree in physics, mechanical engineering or scientific computing. The successful applicant should have a very good knowledge in fluid mechanics and high-performance parallel computing. A background in turbulence research and/or geophysical or astrophysical fluid mechanics is an advantage. This position requires participation in the GGNB graduate school, which includes a teaching assistance in German and English languages.
Salary and working hours are in accordance with the funding guidelines of the Max Planck Society for junior scientists: The full-time position is limited to 3 years, salary is 75 % of pay level E13 of the collective wage agreement for the public service (TVöD Bund).
